Who does the role suit?

Do you enjoy working with people, have excellent communication skills and a strong ability to organise? Are you professional and tactile? Then a career in HR could be right for you. There are a few variations of the HR role but at entry level you normally don’t require qualifications or vast experience, to become a HR Assistant. Administrative experience can be beneficial and a CIPD qualification is an advantage, as is a knowledge of policies, regulations and procedures.

What kind of tasks does a HR Assistant do?

A HR Assistant would normally do the following tasks to support the HR Manager:

  • Process payroll
  • Assist internal recruitment and induction
  • Ensure compliance
  • Deal with employee benefits
  • Provide support through data entry, printing and answering the phone

Salary estimates and progression

Salaries vary from £16,000 at entry level, rising to £24,000 with experience and location. Once you have experience as a HR Assistant you could progress in to a role as a HR Advisor or Manager.
