My Journey So Far at First Recruitment Group

Since joining First Recruitment Group, I’ve learned so much about the full recruitment cycle, the industries we support, and how to build genuine relationships with candidates. I applied for this role because I was ready for a change from working in hospitality. I’d seen on LinkedIn how positive the culture is at FRG, and I was instantly drawn in. The opportunity to join a trainee programme designed for people from all kinds of backgrounds was amazing – it’s already boosted my confidence, both in and outside of work.
On my first day, I had no idea how in-depth recruitment could be. Two months in, I now realise just how much there is to it and how much I’ve already picked up. The trainee programme at FRG has been a brilliant experience so far. It includes hands-on training in everything from job searching and candidate sourcing to writing job adverts and holding effective conversations. I’ve also gained experience using candidate databases and job boards – all brand-new tools to me when I started.
But my journey at FRG hasn’t just been about learning the ropes of recruitment. One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed is in my own confidence. With support from the whole team, I’ve grown so much in a short space of time. I still remember how nervous I was making my first candidate call – and not long after that, I booked my first interview. That was a big milestone for me and one I’m really proud of.
I’ve had fantastic support from Liz and the entire team. There’s a real sense of collaboration throughout the business, which reflects one of FRG’s core values. Everyone genuinely wants to see each other succeed. Culture-wise, there’s lots to look forward to as well – we’ve got the Chester Races coming up soon, and it’s great to work somewhere that puts time and effort into looking after its people. It really does make a difference.
