Role
Role: Primary applications manager
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Salary: £55,000 - £60,000
Role Purpose:
- Lead and deliver primary and HV design packages on substation projects, including Grid projects, wind farms, etc. as assigned by line manager.
- To develop substation layouts and associated detail diagrams in accordance with established UK standards and processes through working with and leading allocated CAD resource locally and in other business units.
Role responsibilities:
- To develop technical specifications and material schedules for HV primary equipment.
- Undertake primary design & calculations, grounding & lightning design, steel design inputs, transformers, converters/rectifiers, HV & MV switchgear systems, auxiliary power AC & DC systems, power cables, RFQ, BOQ, SCF, DSLP, earthing system, busbar sizing, cable engineering.
- Provide technical support and to develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents.
- To produce engineering time estimates and support monthly forecasts to complete.
- To lead and input into design and hazard review meetings.
- To provide technical support on site when required.
- Develop tenders and proposals as assigned by line manager.
- Training and mentoring junior staff.
Experience Required:
- Msc or BSc in electrical engineering or related engineering discipline/field or equivalent.
- 8+ years of experience in substations primary engineering and design or
- 10 years of experience in lieu of HNC / HND.
- Experience as a Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE), as defined by National Grid's NG/ET/SR188 procedure will be an advantage.
- A Chartered Engineer (through IET) status or working towards it is desirable.
