Job Specification: SCL Site Engineer – HS2 Project
Position: SCL Site Engineer
Project: HS2
Location: Birmingham
Rate: Day rate
Shifts: Day and night
Role Overview:
The SCL Site Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the setting out and execution of Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) and tunnel works on the HS2 project. The role requires close coordination with subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations. The engineer will supervise site activities, monitor progress, conduct inspections, and manage documentation for all SCL-related activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Setting Out and Surveying:
- Perform precise setting out and final checks using Total Station and Amber systems for 2nd lining and SCL excavation works.
- Control excavation profiles and shotcrete spray profiles, ensuring they meet the project’s design requirements.
2. Project Planning & Coordination:
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure the timely provision of necessary information, materials, and resources.
- Act as a liaison between subcontractors and the project team, ensuring smooth communication and workflow.
3. Site Supervision & Management:
- Supervise day-to-day activities of subcontractors and direct labor to ensure compliance with project schedules, specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Monitor site progress and address any delays or issues in real time, ensuring that work is completed on time and within budget.
4. Quality Control & Assurance:
- Inspect the quality of work performed by subcontractors and ensure compliance with contract specifications.
- Collaborate with the Quality Team to coordinate testing and inspections, ensuring all work and materials meet the required standards.
- Oversee shotcrete-related testing to facilitate the excavation cycle and ensure proper installation of maturity sensors for 2nd lining.
5. Health, Safety, and Environmental Management:
- Ensure all activities comply with company health and safety policies and relevant legal requirements.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Deliver safety briefings, provide induction training for newcomers and visitors, and ensure ongoing compliance with RAMS and TBS.
6. Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed daily progress reports, tracking work performed, materials used, hours worked, and any issues encountered.
- Report any delays, issues, or concerns regarding SCL work to higher management.
- Prepare and update safety-related documents, including RAMS, TBS, and related permits.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in SCL and tunnelling works, preferably on large infrastructure projects (e.g., HS2, Crossrail).
- Proficiency with setting out tools, such as Total Stations and Amber systems.
- Strong understanding of tunnel construction processes, including shotcrete and excavation profiles.
- In-depth knowledge of quality control, safety regulations, and environmental standards in construction.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills for working with subcontractors and the project team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and address issues in real-time.
Shift Pattern
(5/2 shift pattern: 12hours x 5 days during),
(10/4 shift pattern- Dayshift: 12 hours x 5 days, + 12hours x 5 days)
(9/5 shift pattern- Nightshift: 12 hours x 5 days, + 12 hours x 4days)
Shift pattern:
From April 25 to Mid May -> 5/2 (working Monday to Friday, off on Saturday & Sunday ) day and night alternatively
From mid May 25 to 2nd week of July 25 -> 10/4 dayshift, 9/5 night shift (Working Tuesday to Thursday over weekend, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday off) alternatively
