Our client has a requirement for a Civil Structrual Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Devonport, Plymouth.
Role Purpose:
To support the Discipline Lead in delivering structural engineering work packages across nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. This includes managing technical deliverables in line with scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements, in alignment with the Engineering Management Plan. The role is part of the Major Infrastructure Projects Business Unit.
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Prepare and check designs, analyses, reports, specifications, and drawings within SQEP capability.
- Assist in developing technical solutions for design problems and construction methodologies.
- Complete assigned design work packages and contribute to their planning and delivery.
- Provide on-the-job guidance to junior engineers.
- Apply lessons learned to improve design practices and maintain engineering development records.
- Support construction, installation, commissioning, and maintenance to meet design intent and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct on-site inspections of civil assets.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant procedures and technical governance within the client’s engineering environment.
- Interface with multi-disciplinary teams and external suppliers to ensure technical integration and design compliance.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Engineering Management Plan.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders including Safety Case Engineers, Design Authority, UAG, and Project Managers to support project objectives.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
Essential:
- Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership.
- Strong understanding of engineering design and safety practices.
- Experience managing complex design packages throughout the project lifecycle.
- Proven ability to work with subcontracted design houses.
- Competent in engineering design software and relevant computer applications.
- Experience in project planning, budgeting, and resource management.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and Quality procedures.
Desirable:
- Nuclear Introductory Course or relevant nuclear/marine systems knowledge.
- Background in seismic design and dock structures.
- Experience in architectural and services design for industrial buildings.
- Familiarity with nuclear safety regulations and site licence conditions.
- Experience in supporting construction and modification of nuclear/conventional submarine facilities.
