About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical) to join the Box Encapsulation Plant (BEP) project at Sellafield. This role is vital in ensuring that all mechanical commissioning activities are delivered to the highest safety and quality standards, supporting the successful handover of systems from construction through to operation.
As the Lead Commissioning Engineer, you will lead a multidisciplinary team through the testing and commissioning lifecycle, ensuring compliance, safety, and delivery to schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a role model for safety, leading by example across nuclear, radiological, conventional, and environmental safety standards
- Lead a team of Commissioning Engineers and Technicians during all phases of mechanical commissioning
- Plan, manage, and supervise mechanical testing activities throughout all commissioning stages
- Oversee the creation and approval of commissioning test documentation
- Organise and direct commissioning technicians and support staff effectively
- Supervise the initiation, implementation, and resolution of Field Observation Reports (FOBs) and Technical Queries (TQs)
- Liaise with regulatory and compliance representatives to ensure proper witnessing of commissioning activities
- Manage Temporary Commissioning Aids (TCAs) and ensure accurate recording and traceability
- Maintain detailed test data records in accordance with procedural and regulatory requirements
- Utilise completions management systems to oversee commissioning activities and manage handovers from construction to commissioning and onwards to the client
- Plan, schedule, and track work against the overall project timeline
- Participate in multidiscipline design reviews and support engineering teams
- Promote continuous improvement throughout the commissioning process
- Drive progress toward key project milestones and deadlines
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline (mechanical preferred)
- HNC (or equivalent) preferred, or a clear route to achieving qualification
- Demonstrable project commissioning experience in a similar environment
- Hands-on experience with process commissioning involving vessels, pumps, and associated mechanical systems
- IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
- Valid CSCS Card
Tools & Software Experience
- Go Completions or similar completions management systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
