Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Transmission & Distribution (Sub Stations)

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a renowned international engineering consultancy with a strong presence across Ireland. Their Energy and Power division is at the forefront of delivering complex engineering solutions across the full lifecycle of energy infrastructure projects.

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their expanding Power Transmission and Distribution team. This is a chance to contribute to transformative energy projects and work with major utilities and global clients shaping the energy transition

Key Responsibilities:

You will work closely with the Power Grid Associate Director and support a variety of high-profile projects. Key tasks include:

• Reviewing detailed electrical designs for compliance with specifications and regulatory standards
• Assessing procurement documentation for high-voltage (HV) equipment
• Developing commissioning and energisation documentation
• Providing engineering input across all project phases – from feasibility to handover
• Producing or reviewing key documentation such as schematics, substation layouts, and HV cable/OHL designs
• Supporting design and construction review processes
• Responding to complex technical queries from clients and stakeholders
• Contributing to the delivery of innovative technologies including HVDC, energy storage, and smart grid solutions
• Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers

Candidate Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering (Chartered status desirable or working towards)
• Proven experience in the transmission and distribution sector, ideally with EirGrid and ESB
• Technical expertise in HV substation design (33kV – 400kV) and system integration
• Solid understanding of project lifecycle stages and health & safety requirements in HV design
• Experience in substation automation, protection, and control systems
• Site experience in construction, testing, or commissioning of HV systems is advantageous
• Excellent communication and coordination skills, including experience working with international clients
• A proactive approach to knowledge-sharing and mentoring junior staff
• Familiarity with emerging technologies in renewable and sustainable energy systems
