Instrument & Control Commissioning Engineer

 

Contract Position | Wytch Farm, Dorset

 

We are seeking an experienced Instrument & Control Commissioning Engineer to join a dynamic, multi-discipline team at a major onshore oil and gas facility located in Dorset.

 

This is an initial 12-month contract (Monday–Friday, site-based) offering an exciting opportunity to support the safe and efficient delivery of engineering projects and upgrades across a complex legacy site.

 


 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Deliver Instrument & Control (I&C) engineering support across the full project lifecycle, from design through to commissioning and handover.

  • Participate in HAZOP and LOPA studies as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Contribute to the development of project requirements, specifications, and control philosophies.

  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including:

    • Loop sheets

    • Instrument data sheets

    • Functional design specifications

    • Cross-patch schedules

    • Control panel drawings

    • Functional test procedures

  • Lead commissioning activities, ensuring quality assurance and compliance with site standards.

  • Manage interfaces with third-party contractors and vendors.

  • Ensure all I&C work adheres to internal standards and relevant international codes.

  • Support the plant’s change management process (e.g., Plant Modification Proposals).

  • Actively promote and participate in site HSE and safety culture initiatives.

 


 

Technical Scope Includes:

 

  • Instrumentation (Pressure, Temperature, Level, Flow)

  • Pneumatic and Hydraulic Control Systems

  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS)

  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)

  • Fire & Gas Detection Systems

  • Flow Measurement Technologies

 


 

Candidate Profile:

 

  • Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical, Control, or Instrumentation).

  • Proven experience in instrumentation and control design and commissioning, ideally within the oil & gas, energy, or process industries.

  • Familiarity with:

    • ATEX-rated equipment (CompEx certification desirable)

    • Functional Safety (IEC 61511) and safety lifecycle principles

    • Operational Technology cybersecurity (beneficial but not essential)

  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive, collaborative approach.

  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance.

  • Must hold a valid UK driving licence.
