Our Client has a requirement for a Site Mechanical Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis at their site based in Westlakes.
Role Purpose:
To provide site-based mechanical engineering support throughout project delivery, ensuring design intent, constructability, and quality standards are achieved. The role involves close coordination between design and site teams, providing technical assurance, and managing the configuration and delivery of engineering work packages.
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Provide Lessons From Experience (LFE) and site knowledge of plant constraints throughout the delivery process.
- Pre-approve Technical Queries (TQs) to ensure site works can progress without delay.
- Produce NFRs / Feasibility Reports to justify design decisions.
- Offer technical advice on-site to subcontractors, craftspeople, and operatives, and feed information back to the design team.
- Manage site-based activities and oversee assigned sections of construction projects.
- Assist in sign-off against the construction order.
- Oversee quality of building work, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
- Perform setting out, levelling, and site surveying.
- Ensure plans, drawings, and quantities are accurate and suitable for construction.
- Manage design documents (drawings/specs) to confirm correct installation on site.
- Maintain configuration control of engineering deliverables and site works.
- Liaise with Sellafield (SL) designers to ensure compliance with design and construction regulations.
- Report progress, risks, and issues to the client team.
- Plan work efficiently and adapt to site challenges or schedule changes.
- Use AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D scanning software to transfer data between site and design teams.
- Provide input and constructability feedback for design reviews.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
- Proven experience in site-based mechanical engineering within nuclear, defence, or major infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of design-to-construction processes and plant operating constraints.
- Competent in AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D scanning software.
- Ability to review and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills across design and site teams.
- Rad capability (Ferrus Scanning & Pull Testing) – desirable but not essential.
