Role Overview
The Project Manager will lead the delivery of planned and reactive project work across the United Utilities region. The role will involve developing and maintaining strong working relationships with United Utilities operational personnel, internal MSP stakeholders, and supply chain partners, while promoting a collaborative team environment.
The position requires experience in both the design and delivery of water projects. The successful individual will be responsible for managing and delivering a portfolio of smaller maintenance and capital projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and commercially efficient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Leadership and development of multidisciplinary project teams
• Full life-cycle oversight and accountability for maintenance projects and services, including design, procurement, assembly, commissioning, and handover
• Ensuring supply chain compliance with the framework management plan
• Providing leadership to create and maintain a strong safety culture with the objective of zero LTI and zero RIDDOR incidents
• Maintaining a strong commercial focus, challenging project scope and selecting efficient and effective delivery strategies
• Engaging all stakeholders within MSP and United Utilities at both strategic and operational levels to ensure alignment and support for project delivery and service impacts
• Ensuring consistent, accurate, and reliable reporting of project and service performance through MSP systems
• Early identification of key project and programme risks, with effective mitigation strategies implemented wherever possible
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Previous experience managing multidisciplinary projects, including Civils and MEICA, preferably within the water sector
• Proven track record in the successful delivery of project programmes
• Knowledge and understanding of construction contract law and standard forms of contract, supported by experience and formal training
• Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with client stakeholders, supply chain partners, internal teams, and across the framework and Costain group
• Strong computer competence, including MS Word, Excel, document control systems, and Primavera software
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders
