Our Client has a requirement for a Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) / Lead Appointed Person, who will be required to work on a contract basis.

Role Purpose:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator to join a major highways infrastructure project. This is an initial 6-month contract supporting a scheme with an anticipated construction programme of approximately 3 years, offering strong potential for extension.

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring all temporary works activities are planned, coordinated and delivered safely, efficiently and in full compliance with BS5975, project specifications and statutory requirements.

The successful candidate will also undertake the role of Lead Appointed Person for Lifting Operations, supporting the safe delivery of lifting activities across the project.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) on a major highways infrastructure project.
  • Manage and maintain the Temporary Works Register.
  • Identify temporary works requirements and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
  • Coordinate Temporary Works Supervisors, Designers and site teams.
  • Review Temporary Works Design Briefs, designs, approvals and implementation.
  • Ensure temporary works are installed, inspected, maintained and removed in accordance with approved designs.
  • Oversee temporary works associated with highways, bridges, structures, earthworks, drainage, excavations and lifting operations.
  • Ensure compliance with BS5975 and project temporary works procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and temporary works audits.
  • Review construction methodologies, loading constraints and associated risks.
  • Ensure RAMS, ITPs and quality documentation are reviewed, approved and adhered to.
  • Support and mentor engineering and site teams.
  • Act as Lead Appointed Person for lifting operations.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and lead by example.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, planning and commercial teams to support successful project delivery.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

Essential

  • CITB Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) qualification.
  • SMSTS.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator on major highways, infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of BS5975 Temporary Works Procedures.
  • Experience managing Temporary Works Registers and Temporary Works Supervisors.
  • Experience working within a Principal Contractor environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and temporary works risks.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

Desirable

  • Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) qualification.
  • National Highways project experience.
  • Experience delivering temporary works on bridges, structures, earthworks and major highways schemes.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
  • Rail, energy, nuclear or major infrastructure project experience.
