Senior/Principal C&I Engineer

Our Client has a requirement for a Senior or Principal C&I Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Grangemouth.

Role Purpose:

• To provide Control & Instrumentation Engineering services in support of a long-term engineering services agreement for a major client within the petrochemical and chemical processing sector. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of projects across all phases, including Concept Studies, FEED, Detailed Design and Execution.
• At Principal level, the role will also involve leading multidisciplinary C&I teams, coordinating engineering activities, and acting as the technical focal point for both client and project stakeholders.

Job Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver Control & Instrumentation engineering services on medium and large capital projects.
• Produce and review C&I engineering deliverables throughout all project phases.
• Interface effectively with other engineering disciplines, project management teams and client representatives.
• Develop equipment specifications, technical requisitions and bid evaluations.
• Specify and requisition field instrumentation, analysers, DCS, PLC and SIS systems.
• Support the development of P&IDs, control philosophies and instrumentation design documentation.
• Undertake site surveys and support design safety and constructability reviews.
• Apply hazardous area instrumentation design principles in accordance with ATEX requirements.
• Support instrumentation and control requirements associated with mechanical packages.
• Carry out sizing and specification of flow devices, control valves and relief devices.
• Work collaboratively with global integrated delivery teams to ensure successful project execution.

Additional Principal Level Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate C&I engineering teams comprising Engineers and Designers.
• Manage discipline resource requirements, budgets and project schedules.
• Lead C&I interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineering personnel.
• Act as the primary discipline focal point for client and project management engagement.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in Chemical, Petrochemical and/or Oil & Gas industries.
• Proven experience delivering Instrumentation and Control Engineering on medium to large capital projects from concept through to start-up.
• Experience working on UK projects and applying UK engineering standards.
• Strong understanding of EPC project delivery environments.
• Competent in equipment specification, technical bid analysis and supplier management.
• Experience with DCS, PLC and SIS systems throughout the full project lifecycle.
• Functional Safety experience; TÜV Functional Safety qualification advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of Hazardous Area Instrumentation and ATEX requirements.
• Experience with P&ID development and instrumentation design.
• Competent in flow device, control valve and relief device sizing.
• Knowledge of Electrical Protection Methodologies.
• Experience conducting site surveys and supporting design safety reviews.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working within global integrated engineering delivery teams.
• For Principal level candidates, demonstrable experience leading engineering teams and managing discipline delivery.
