Our Client has a requirement for an Engineering Manager who will be required to work on a contract basis at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Role Purpose:

The Engineering Manager is tasked with supporting the Design and Safety Manager in making day-to-day engineering decisions, facilitating communication with the project management community, supply base, and overseeing resource selection and interviews for an expanding engineering team. The primary objective is to contribute to the delivery of engineering outcomes in the 5 Basin Berth, a non-tidal berth dedicated to Nuclear Submarine support and maintenance.

Job Role Responsibilities for the Engineering Manager

  • Assist the Design and Safety Manager and design managers in achieving engineering
  • Play an active role in building medium-term capability within the engineering team to meet program demands.
  • Contribute to team management alongside the Design and Safety Manager.
  • Liaise with the project management community within the project and engage with the supply chain on technical matters.

Requirements of the Engineering manager

  • Engineering/STEM background with a degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong technical leadership and project management background.
  • Experience in highly regulated industries, such as oil & gas.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and positive communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of Design and Nuclear Safety
  • Previous experience in Major projects (nuclear or non-nuclear)
  • Mechanical / Electrical / Civil experience experience
  • Negotiation / collaboration skills - deal with external contract partners
  • Able to set tasking / deal with queries, assess quality work of design and safety.
  • Background in Engineering systems and design
  • Make engineering decisions based on design options and approval of designs.
  • Preferred - extensive knowledge of design codes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors / Masters Education
  • Chartered Engineer
