Senior Underground Engineer – Contract Position (Outside IR35)
Location: Central London (Hybrid/Flexible)
Duration: Initial 6 months with potential extension
Sector: Oil & Gas / Energy EPC
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading EPC client for a Senior Underground Engineer to support a major energy infrastructure project. This is a long-term contract opportunity offering exposure to a high-profile development with global coordination.
Role Overview:
The Senior Underground Engineer will work closely with the discipline lead to prepare key engineering deliverables related to underground works. The successful candidate will contribute to detailed design and coordination activities across the following areas:

Design basis and technical specifications for underground services and materials

Road infrastructure including paving, access roads, haul roads and service roads

Stormwater management systems including culverts, ponds, and liner design

Drainage system calculations – stormwater, contaminated drainage, sanitary waste, and chemical waste disposal

Erosion control and surface water protection measures

Utility routing and underground pipelines

Composite underground services drawings (e.g. drainage, firewater, potable water, cabling)

Processing topographic data from LiDAR, satellite, and ground surveys

Developing 3D models and drawings for earthworks (site prep, grading, drainage, ditches, roads, embankments) using Civil 3D

Preparation of material take-offs and coordination across multiple engineering functions
Requirements:

Proven experience in underground civil and utility design within major infrastructure or energy projects

Proficiency in Civil 3D and handling topographic data for design integration

Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and global engineering centres

Strong organisational and communication skills to liaise effectively with clients and internal stakeholders
