Our Client has a requirement for a Project Engineering Manager, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Manchester.

Role Purpose of the Project Engineering Manager

To manage the delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering design on major infrastructure projects in the nuclear fuels, decommissioning, water, and transport sectors.
This is a client-facing role, responsible for leading engineering activities through Concept, FEED, and Detailed Design phases, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and project delivery to time, cost, and quality targets.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage engineering delivery across all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure engineering designs are safe, sustainable, compliant, and commercially viable.
  • Resource planning and effective utilisation of engineering teams.
  • Brief engineering teams on detailed scope, design basis, budget, and programme requirements
  • Coordinate design interfaces between client, Contractor, and supply chain partners.
  • Manage contractual communications, progress meetings, reporting, and team coordination.
  • Ensure risks are identified and mitigated early, with issues escalated promptly.
  • Support project tenders with strategy, estimates, schedules, and technical inputs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes.
  • Promote and maintain highest standards of health, safety, quality, and ethics.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Significant experience managing multi-disciplinary teams across major projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK technical and regulatory standards.
  • Understanding of project controls (schedule, cost, risk, change).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Process safety, environmental and quality leadership.
  • Able to work a minimum of 3 days/week in Manchester office.
  • Willingness to travel to client/supplier sites as required.
  • Honours Degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • Eligible for SC clearance.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) and professional institution membership.
  • APM qualification or accreditation.
  • Experience with CE marking of plant/equipment.
  • Knowledge in energy transition (e.g. Hydrogen, CCUS).
  • Civils, structural, or infrastructure knowledge.
  • Experience in nuclear, chemical, or related process industries.
