The Role: Senior Engineer, Flexible Pipe
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Flexible Pipe Engineer to support Eni’s global offshore deepwater projects. Based within the engineering group in Basingstoke, you will deliver specialist engineering expertise across all project phases—from feasibility studies and concept development through FEED, tendering, and execution.
You will play an essential role in ensuring the technical quality, safety, and compliance of unbonded flexible pipe systems for several upcoming and ongoing offshore initiatives across the Eni portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
As Senior Flexible Pipe Engineer, your duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Preparing technical documentation related to unbonded flexible pipes across all project phases (Conceptual Studies, FEED, Tendering, Contract Packages).
- Managing and following up large EPCI contracts for offshore unbonded flexible pipe systems during tender and execution.
- Ensuring designs meet project requirements, relevant standards, and engineering best practices.
- Supporting supplier tendering and selection, including qualifications, clarifications, and technical recommendations.
- Reviewing and approving FEED, tender, and detailed engineering deliverables prepared by contractors.
- Collaborating closely with colleagues within the Subsea Systems department and with other engineering disciplines.
- Ensuring correct and consistent application of design codes, internal standards, and Company HSEQ policies.
- Staying current with design standards related to unbonded flexible pipes and ensuring their correct application.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- Minimum BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Technical Experience
- Demonstrable experience with flexible pipes from preliminary engineering to detailed design.
- Experience in the technical design of unbonded flexible flowlines and risers, including associated ancillaries and interfaces (topsides, subsea, installation).
- Knowledge of bonded flexible pipe technology is advantageous.
- Familiarity with offshore and onshore testing, including FAT, SIT, pre-commissioning, installation, and commissioning support.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant international codes and subsea standards, particularly:
- API 17J
- API 17L1
- API 17B
- API 17K
Software Skills
- Proficient with MS Office applications.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Experience with Mechanical FEA tools such as: ANSYS, Abaqus, CosmosWorks.
- Experience with dynamic analysis tools such as: OrcaFlex.
Additional Experience
- Involvement in Design and Safety Reviews—HAZOP, HAZID, risk assessments.
- Experience supervising contractor and vendor deliverables.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
