Safety Engineer (Nuclear)
Contract/Staff: Full-time or Part-time - Permanent
Location: North East, North West England
Our client has a requirement for a Safety Engineer (Nuclear) to work on a contract basis in North East or North West England
Role Purpose: The Safety Engineer (Nuclear) will play a pivotal role in ensuring safety compliance and execution of nuclear sector projects. Expertise in safety case development, process safety, and regulatory adherence are fundamental to this role.
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of safety engineering to address nuclear-specific safety challenges.
- Lead Hazard Identification reviews, Process Safety reviews, and Functional Safety assessments.
- Ensure seamless integration of engineering deliverables, strictly adhering to nuclear regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on industry advancements and evolving safety standards.
- Manage safety aspects of projects, overseeing safety-related timeframes, costs, and quality.
- Cultivate a culture of quality, compliance, and safety within the team.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications: Essential:
- Membership in a suitable Engineering Institute.
- Demonstrable experience in safety engineering within a high-risk industry.
- Full plant life cycle safety requirements understanding.
- ALARP principals understanding.
- Experience in safety assessment techniques (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, QRA).
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Design, technical detailing, and specification writing experience.
- Proficiency in standard software packages (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer Status.
- Nuclear Industry experience.
- Multi-disciplinary design team experience.
- Managing teams across different levels.
- Contributing to bids, proposals, and tender specifications.
- Hazard identification and reviews experience.
- Design for hazardous areas/classification and pressure relief systems.
- Security Clearance for UK nuclear sector work.
